For those of you who don’t know me my name is Phil Grant and I am the current chairman of the fantastic DA that is Perth and Angus . I am currently enjoying my 10th year as a member of the Camping and Caravanning Club and my enthusiasm for all things fun grows year on year.
We are a fun loving DA who pride ourselves in running a busy and varied camping calendar with meets and activities to suit members of all ages. We use different venues varying from luxury camp sites with all the facilities to wild camping in large open fields with beautiful scenery.
If your a fan of a good party then maybe , just maybe you have stumbled upon the right DA!
2016 was a fantastic season with many highlights . This year saw me complete my third Jean Stewart walk . A walk of 20 miles over 2 days carrying everything you need from tent, sleeping bag, food, cooker, you get the picture. We were lucky enough to be joined by the magazine editor Simon Mcgrath and boy did he get a surprise . We had a few first timers at 12 yr old, Sean Martin became our youngest ever walking on his 12th birthday.
The weather as always was mixed, it started sunny but this time I was not fooled. I was glad I kept my waterproofs on as the unforecast heavy rain together with wind hit us yet again! It is amazing to watch these very young adults dealing with the physical and mental struggle that this walk always is. You watch them almost at the point of breaking, dig deep and carry on. A real life lesson early on that gives them confidence in what they can achieve. I’m sure some of them surprise themselves.
We all completed the walk as always and we were rewarded with a fantastic write up in the club mag. We are hoping Simon can join us again this year.
My first year as RYLO (Region youth Liason officer) alongside Debbie Carcary flew by and was so enjoyable. We travelled to Worksop in July for the National youth rally. What an event. We lost much of our experienced team this year due to them having other commitments but boy did the youngsters step up to the plate. They were all inspirational and we returned to Scotland with the Austin Trophy. Let’s see if we can defend our crown in Ireland this year. I was once again appointed RYLO alongside Debbie this year which is again an honour.
2016 saw us gain two new committee members in Sarah Ronson (webmaster) and James Cook (Regalia officer). Two fantastic, enthusiastic committee members to help us continue on our journey.
I would like to say a massive thanks to all our committee members old and new who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure all our members enjoy their camping experience. Once again thanks for making my job as chairman an enjoyable one.
We are looking forward to our busy 2017 season which is about to begin. Please feel free to browse our 2017 meets list and plan your season. I will be at the majority of our meets relaxing and soaking up the sunshine. Please come and say hello if you see me at one of our many meets.
Wishing you all a fantastic 2017 season.
